Ellen Blackburn Smith's Obituary
Ellen Marie Blackburn Smith, born July 26, 1938 to Georgia and Warren Adkins. Ellen went to her heavenly home on January 30, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Dunham, Kentucky and moved to Ohio in 1953. Later she moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 1982.
Ellen enjoyed being with her family. She was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 815 since 1988 in Cape Coral, Florida and served as Treasurer, Secretary Chaplin and Senior Regent 3 times, sponsoring 44 members.
She worked as a Nurses Aide for Avon Oaks Nursing Home in Avon, Ohio from 1968- 1974 and Beacon –Donagen Manor in Florida from 1985-1998.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Larry Smith, of Fort Myers, Florida; daughters, Betty (William) Bentley, of Lorain and Barbara (Scott Ridenour) Snyder Sandt, of Fort Myers, Florida; step-daughter, Heather Hicks, of Indianapolis, Indiana; sons, Bill (Sandra) Blackburn, of Lakewood, Michael (Julie) Blackburn, of Camden, Indiana and Boyd Blackburn, of Lorain; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, James (Cleo) Adkins, of Cape Coral, Florida, Danny (Viola) Adkins, of Lorain; sister, Linda (Roger) Thacker, of Elyria; many nieces and nephews.
Ellen was preceded in death by her first husband, Lon Blackburn in 1974; parents, Georgia and Warren Adkins; brother Fred Adkins and sister, Carolyn Adkins.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Pastor, Tim Adkins, of Lake Breeze Church of the Brethren, will officiate. Interment will follow in Kendeigh Corner Cemetery, Amherst Twp.
