Emery Ugene Keathley's Obituary
Emery Ugene Keathley, age 81, of Elyria, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Avon Oaks Nursing Home, Avon.
He was born on March 27, 1936 in Teaberry, Kentucky to Snoden and and Dora Edna (nee Kiser) Keathley. Emery married the love of his life, Barbara Ellen (nee Hamilton) on December 28, 1959. He retired from US Steel in 1995 after working there for 41 years.
Emery enjoyed attending Little Edna Old Regular Baptist Church and was a member of the Steelworkers Union Local 1104. Emery’s greatest joy through life came from his time spent with his family, especially his adoring grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Barbara Ellen (nee Hamilton) Keathley, his children; Connie (Gene) Slone, of Lorain, Rodney (Anita) Keathley, of LaGrange, and Gregory (Pamela) Keathley, of Canal Winchester, and his 4 adoring grandchildren; Amanda Keathley, Zechariah Keathley, Nicole Slone, and Hannah Keathley. Emery is also survived by his brother, David, of Teaberry, KY, and sisters; Wilma, of Minnie, KY and Lora, of Martin, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Rachel Keathley, as well as siblings; Lilly, Kenneth, Viola, Richard, Howard, and Roger.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July31, from 3 to 8 pm and on Tuesday, August 1, from 3 to 8 pm, at the Little Edna Old Regular Baptist Church, 5160 Bond Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. His funeral service will be on Wednesday, at 11:00 am, also at the church. Burial will follow at River Road Cemetery, LaGrange. The Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, is assisting the family with arrangements.
