Emil Haponek's Obituary
Emil Haponek, born on October 28, 1926 in Lorain, Ohio to Anthony and Antonia (nee Salley) Haponek passed away on July 5, 2022 at his home at the age of 95.
He was a graduate of Lorain High School and served his country in the United States Army. Emil worked as a machinist for United States Steel before being hired by the Lorain Police Department as a Police Officer for over 25 years. Upon his retirement from the Police Department, he worked as a custodian for Lorain St. Peters for 7 years.
Emil was extremely handy and inventive and enjoyed fixing and tinkering with everything. He had a beautiful singing voice and loved telling stories and had a generous spirit. He loved his family above all else and loved the time spent with them.
He is survived by his sons, David Haponek, Robert Haponek, Douglas (Pamela) Haponek; daughter, Susan (Michael) Lucas; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Emil was preceded in death by his wife of 52 Years, Doris (nee Reber), in 2006; daughter-in-law, Sheri (nee Ivancic) Haponek; parents, Anthony and Antonia Haponek; and his brothers, Walter and Eugene Haponek.
The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, July 9, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 12:00 p.m. Rev. Father Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made in memory of Emil to Veterans Who Care, 1300 W. 9th. Street, Lorain, OH 44052.
