Emily J. Fabanich's Obituary
Emily J. Fabanich (nee Majesic), age 88, of Sheffield Village passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake. She was born on March 11, 1927 in North Versailles Twp., PA to Gaspar and Mary Majesic and was a 1944 graduate of Rochester High School in Rochester, PA. While attending high school she was awarded the title of “Football Queen” by the student body of the school, a title of which she was proud.
She was an active member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and a former member of St. John’s Church in Lorain. As a member of the Zumbercani Croatian Orchestra she was a featured soloist at the Lorain International Festival. She was also a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 136.
Emily was a wonderful cook and on Sunday afternoons she liked to turn on the television and watch golf. She was completely devoted to her family and enjoyed nothing more than watching their musical performances and spending time with them. She and her husband loved their annual 104th. Infantry Division Timberwolf reunions. One of Emily’s dreams was take her children on a trip to Croatia and Medjugorje. That dream came true in 1998 when they all traveled there to embrace their Croatian heritage. It was a memorable experience that her children will forever cherish.
She is survived by her son, Paul (Beth) Fabanich, of Lorain; daughters, Emily Fabanich, of Sheffield Village, Mary Ann (Michael) Graves, of Longs, SC, Beth (Rich) Correll, of Los Angeles, CA and Trish (Craig) MacDonald of Lorain; grandchildren, Matthew (Angela) Gerovac, Aimee Gerovac, Leona (Joe) Zeoli, John Paul Fabanich II, Kristie Fabanich, Eric Fabanich, Brianna Graves, John Graves, Lucas Graves and Daniel Graves, and Ana Fabanich MacDonald; great-grandchildren, Miles Zeoli and Braden Gerovac; and her sister, Mary Ann Hoffman.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Fabanich; parents, Gaspar and Mary Majesic; and her sister, Pauline Savanovich.
The Fabanich family will receive friends on Friday, March 11, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Saturday, March 12th at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 1878 Abbe Road, Sheffield Village. Rev. Fr. James Becherer will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Teresa Cemetery.
