Ernesto Cruz's Obituary
Ernesto G. Cruz, age 93, of Lorain, died on Friday, May 21, 2010 at Community Health Partners Hospital, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on November 21, 1916 in Maunabo, Puerto Rico, moving to Lorain in 1948 where he has lived since.
Ernesto was employed at Lorain Works US Steel in the Bop Shop for 30 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of Iglesia de Dios Ebenezer where he was active in La Sociedad de Caballeros. He was also a member of United Steelworkers Union Local #1104.
He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, singing, spending time with his grandchildren, praying and reading the bible.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Leonor (nee Lopez), of Lorain, sons, Peter of PR, Eliseo, Abel, and Ruben, all of FL, David of Strongsville, Abraham of Toledo, and Natanael of MI; daughters, Bibiana Cruzado of Lorain, Ernesta Monroe of FL, Esther Cedeno of NY, Julia Yacobucci of Avon, Iris Micochero of Westlake, and Sarai Fenik of Avon Lake; 2 step-daughters, Ana Figueroa of Lorain and Margie Santiago of Sheffield Village; 29 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; brother, Daniel Garcia of Lorain; and a sister, Ana Senquiz of FL.
He was preceded in death by 2 grandsons, Benjamin Reyes and Uriel Figueroa; his parents, Juan and Julia (nee Garcia) Cruz; brothers, Pedro Cruz and Pedro Burgos; and a sister, Carmen Mohica.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 24, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, at the Dovin & Reber Jones Funeral and Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am. at Iglesia de Dios Ebenezer, 3660 Globe Ave., Lorain. Rev. William Rios, pastor, will officiate. Entombment will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
