Eugene Arthur Park's Obituary
Eugene Arthur Park, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Danbury of North Ridgeville. Born on November 18, 1931, in Ashland, Ohio, to Melvin Aloys and Hildagarde Marie (née Saner) Park, Eugene lived a life defined by service, devotion, and kindness.
A proud 1949 graduate of Ashland High School, Eugene enlisted in the United States Navy on March 19, 1951. Over nearly two decades, he served his country with distinction, retiring on May 18, 1970. His time in the Navy was a source of immense pride and a testament to his dedication to his country.
Following his military career, Eugene continued his service to the community as the Director of Lorain County 911, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Lorain, where his faith guided his actions and values.
Eugene had a zest for life and diverse interests. He loved boating, sailing, and the exhilaration of air shows, which fueled his lifelong fascination with airplanes. A skilled tinkerer, Eugene often repaired broken items for others, including radio-controlled cars that he lovingly restored and donated to children. His joy for cooking and ability to create delicious meals brought family and friends together.
Above all, Eugene cherished his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he relished every moment spent with them. His love, wisdom, and unwavering support left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Eugene is survived by his children, Rose M. Park, Jeffrey (Sue) Park, and Michelle (Russell) Wilson; his beloved grandchildren, John Yuhos III, Nicole (Michael) Martinez, Ricky (Mary) Bahnsen, Timothy Bahnsen, Jeffrey (Trina) Bahnsen, Derek (Johanna) Park, Sarah (Sean) Usechek, Robert (Megan) Nickoloff, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Justin) Smith, Anne Marie (Michael McKenna) Nickoloff, and Jessica Gut; and his great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Oliver, Jackson, Jameson, Ava, Adi, Makenna, Brynn, Tyler, Evan, Max, Aidan, Jayden, and Hannah.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Norma J. (née Peyton) Park; and his daughter, Jacqueline Ann Ratelle.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 p.m. Private inurnment will take place on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
