Frederick "Fred" Dalzell's Obituary
Frederick J."Fred" Dalzell, 83, of Amherst, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017, after a long illness at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, with his family at his side.
Fred was born on October 6, 1934 in Lorain, living his entire life in the Lorain and Amherst area. He was a 1953 graduate of Clearview High School, later enlisting in the Ohio National Guard for 6 years. He was employed at US Steel for almost 40 years as an instrument repair technician retiring in 1993.
For over 35 years, Fred and his wife were members of the Ohio Lilly Society, where at one time he held the position of President. As well, they were members of the North American Lilly Society. He was an avid gardener growing vegetables and lilies. Fred's lilies won numerous ribbons and awards at the Ohio Lilly Societies annual convention. Fred enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Erie and Canada along with his wife Regina and their four children. Fred was the Scout Master of Troop #429 where he took his sons and other boy scouts camping and on jamborees. Fred's greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren guiding them in life, playing with and watching his great grandchildren. In retirement, Fred loved to travel with his wife Regina and friends seeing the many wonderful sights each state has to offer.
Frederick is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary “Regina” (nee Van Niel), son, James (Susan), of Naples, FL, daughters; Linda (Mike) Sexton, of Amherst, and Susan (Robert) Trimble, of Lorain, his 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, brothers; Ronald (Sandy), of Amherst, Jack (Sandy), of Amherst, and sisters; Marilyn Gotfried, of Bucyrus, Lois Cuenin, of Wellington, and Cheryl (Joe) Cherney, of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by a son, David, a grandson, Robert Paul Trimble, parents; George and Evelyn (nee Baxter) Dalzell, brothers; Randy and Lowell, and a sister, Judy Wilson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 5, from 11:00 am until the time of his funeral service at 1:00 pm, at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Fr. Craig Hovanec, Pastor of the Church of St. Peter, Lorain, will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
