"Amazing work ethic" is no exaggeration. He started working when he was 12 or 13 by convincing the school janitor to let him sweep floors after school. He wanted a bike so he worked for one!
He was ambitious as well as hard working. One snowy winter he built a full size igloo, complete with entrance tunnel, by packing snow into a box and cutting the resulting blocks to the right shape with a machete. And I'll never forget the humongous piles of Autumn leaves he raked up (getting little brother and sister to help) so we could take a flying jump into them from our tree rope.
He was a great big brother and, as a man, he was generous of his time and kind to both me and Alastair.
