Gary Bailey Pummell, 84, of Elyria, died Saturday, March 28, 2026. He was born August 21, 1941, in Dayton, OH and was a 1959 graduate of Cory-Rawson High School in Rawson, OH. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Ohio Northern University and a master’s degree from Kent State University. For 32 years, Gary was a guidance counselor at Midview High School from where he retired. He was a member of The Gideons International and Calvary Baptist Church where he was a Choir Director and Deacon Emeritus. He enjoyed golf and fishing.
Gary is survived by his wife of 14 years, Mary C. (nee Manson); son, Pastor Douglas (Sue) Pummell of Mount Vernon; daughter-in-law, Daphne Pummell of Elyria; grandchildren, Jacquelyn (CJ) Naples, Desiree Pummell, Tyler (Megan) Pummell and Derek Pummell; great-grandchildren, Colton, Elijah and Avery; step-children, Peter (Debbie) Fernandez and Helena (Carlos) Gonzalez and step grandchildren, P.J., Gavin (Heidi) and Connor.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Ruth A (Schnelle) Pummell in 2011; son, David in 2018, and parents, Rev. Delbert and Bertha Pummell.
Friends will be received, Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 10:30 am until the time of a 12:00 pm Celebration of Life at Calvary Baptist Church, 114 Hope Court, Elyria with Pastor Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will follow in River Road Cemetery, LaGrange.
