Gene F. Tank's Obituary
Gene F. Tank, age 83, of Amherst, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016 at Amherst Manor.
He was born on June 11, 1933 in Toledo and has lived in the Amherst area since 1980. He was a 1951 graduate of Whitmer High School, in Toledo, and later, obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Toledo. Gene proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955. After his honorable discharge, he began his career as a science teacher. He then decided to pursue an engineering career, working as a Manufacturing Engineer, in the paint systems, for Devilbiss Co., in Toledo and Nordson Corp., in Amherst. Gene earned a patent in 1986 for his portable powder spray system. He was also the author of “Industrial Paint Finishing Techniques and Processes” textbook, which was published in 1991.
Gene really enjoyed playing the piano in his free time. When he was not doing that, he could be found collecting and repairing old radios, including short wave radios, and tending to his garden.
He will be sadly missed by his daughters; Karen (Scott) Todhunter, of Amherst and Sara (Donald) Yacobucci, of Vermilion, his grandsons; John and Michael Todhunter, and his sister, Sandra (Arthur) Taylor, of Toledo.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Nancy C. (nee Terry), in 2004, and his parents; Floyd G. and Jessie M. (nee Culler) Tank.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 4-8 pm, at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, where his funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 11:00 am. The Fr. Robert Cole, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Oberlin, will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
