Genevieve Catalano's Obituary
Genevieve M. Catalano (nee Lautenslager), died peacefully on February 26, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was born on February 11, 1920 in Lima, Ohio to John and May (Friedell) Lautenslager. She lived most of her 91 years in Lorain, Ohio.
Genevieve graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1937 and St. Alexis School of Nursing in 1943. She married Jerome Anthony Catalano on August 3rd, 1946, after a wartime courtship by mail.
Genevieve worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital, Lorain Community Hospital and for the Lorain City Health Department. She worked as an office nurse for Drs. Hardwig and Zaworski until her retirement at age 72.
In her lifetime, she was a member of St. Anthony's, St. Mary's, and most recently, St. Peter's Church. She was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Chapter 20, Nightingales (Retired nurses – St. Joseph Hospital), Lorain Senior Center, AARP – Local Chapter 399, and PERS, Local Chapter 83.
Genevieve is survived by her five children: Jerome (Chicago, Illinois), Paul (Jeanne) (Stow, Ohio), Ann (North Tonawanda, New York), Mary Jo (Kurt) Stitak (Lorain), and Richard (Kath) (Williamsburg, Virginia) and daughter-in-law, Emily Catalano. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Matthew (Miriam Wyman) Catalano, Joseph Catalano, Jane (Wayne) Chambliss, John Fatica, Joe Fatica, Jean Catalano, Paul (fiancé - Wendy Robinson) Catalano, Genevieve Catalano, Bernadette (Mike) Hill, Jennifer (Jeremy) Markewicz, Meredith (Marty) Borer, Eric (Michele) Broughton, David Broughton, Alec Catalano, and Mika Catalano; and six great-grandchildren (Isaac Catalano, Madalyn Hill, Benjamin, Tyler, and Andrew Markewicz, and Gabriella Borer). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerome, in 1981, and her brothers, Maurice and Maynard Lautenslager.
Visiting hours will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, Ohio. Closing prayers will be said on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, 3601 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. Fr. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
