George J. Kara Jr.'s Obituary
George J. Kara, Jr. passed away peacefully at Mercy New Life Hospice in the early morning of Friday, June 28, 2024. He was born on May 3, 1935, in Cleveland to George J., Sr. and Marie (née Barsa) Kara.
George spent most of his life in Cleveland before moving to Elyria with his wife, where they remained for 24 years. Seven years ago, they relocated to Lorain. He dedicated 40 years of his life to working at LTV Steel, where he eventually retired.
A true man of God, George was deeply committed to his faith. He was a lifelong member of St. Procops Church in Cleveland, where he served as an usher, money-counter, and a member of the Holy Name Society. After moving to Lorain, he became a proud member of St. Joseph Church in Amherst.
George had a deep love for the water. In his younger years, he owned a boat and cherished annual trips to Put-in-Bay with his the love of his life, his wife, exploring the surrounding islands. He also enjoyed collecting model classic die cast cars.
Above all, George's greatest joy was making his wife and family happy. His kindness extended beyond his family as well; he was always eager to help others in any way he could. It was common to see him mowing lawns throughout the entire neighborhood or fixing things for anyone in need. He even became the self-proclaimed paper delivery man to ensure everyone received their newspaper. George had a huge heart, and if you knew him, you loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Janice M. (nee Karabek) Kara, his daughter, Susan (Roger) Ackley, of Riverside, OH and his 2 cherished granddaughters, Samantha (nee Henry) & Zakarie Forester, of Dublin and Ashley (Chris Griffith) Henry, of Brunswick.
George was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John Kara and his sister-in-law, Arlene Kara.
Per George’s wishes, his funeral services will be private. Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, Amherst, is assisting the family with arrangements. To send an online condolence, please visit www.dovin reberjones.com.
George also instructed that instead of flowers, please make a donation, in his memory, to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
