George Macove's Obituary
George J. Macove, 84 years old, passed away on March 15, 2017 at his winter home in Las Vegas, Nevada with his wife of 62 years, Jean (nee Kostyo) by his side. George was born on July 19, 1932 in Lorain, Ohio and spent the majority of his life in Lorain. George is survived by his loving wife Jean, his three sons, Craig (Michelle) Macove, Keith (Lori) Macove, and Jim Macove. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Jenifer Macove, Kristen Macove, Michael Macove, Madison Macove, great grandson Jaxson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Anna Macove, brothers Daniel Macove and George Rumack, and sisters Mary Heighberger, Julia Traxler and Margaret Rumack.
George graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1950. George proudly served our country in the US Air Force. Following his service, he began his civilian career as a member of the City of Lorain Fire Department. Later, George had a 20 year career with the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller in Oberlin, Ohio. In the later stages of his working life, George worked for the Nordson Corporation as a Blue Jacket Transportation Specialist.
Known as a friendly, outgoing guy throughout his life, George enjoyed participating in all of his children and grandchildren’s activities. He had a passion for cars, always searching for that special model at a great price. He enjoyed playing golf with all of his friends, watching sports on TV, listening to Latin music, sailing on Lake Erie on a Hobie Cat he shared with his sons, riding his motor scooter to Lake View Park, and all of the outdoor and music activities available in the Lorain area. He was also a big supporter of local high school sports programs.
George was a great storyteller and was known as a bright and engaging light to all that knew him.
A Memorial service and a celebration of George’s life will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Rev. Father Craig Hovanec, Pastor of the Church of St. Peter, will officiate the service at 7:30 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst.
