Gerald Earl Burrer's Obituary
Gerald Earl Burrer, 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at his home under the compassionate care of Stein Hospice.
Born November 19, 1943, in Elyria, Ohio, Gerald was the son of the late Earl Christian and Helen (née Balzer) Burrer. A lifelong resident of the area, he graduated from Elyria High School in 1962 and went on to build a proud and dedicated career as a bricklayer. Gerald was a member of Local Union 5 and worked for Burr Brothers, C & L Masonry, and Klingshirn Masonry until his retirement in 2006. Through his craftsmanship and strong work ethic, he helped shape the community he loved.
Gerald was a faithful member of Elyria Zion Methodist Church and an enthusiastic member of the Lakeshore Corvette Club in Sandusky. He had a true passion for his Corvette and treasured the friendships he made through the club. He also enjoyed collecting and operating Lionel model trains, a hobby that brought him great joy.
Known for his meticulous nature, Gerald took immense pride in his yard. From perfectly trimmed grass to carefully tended trees, his lawn was a reflection of his dedication—without a dandelion or crabgrass in sight. He especially loved hosting his annual Pig Roast, welcoming family and friends to gather, share a meal, and create lasting memories together.
Gerald is survived by his sweetheart of 20 years, Mary Rennie; his daughters, Sheri (Paul) Phares and Tammy (Daniel Walend) Burrer; his son, Jerry Burrer; his step-sons, Bill (Margie) Rennie and Richard (Kathie) Rennie; his step-daughter-in-law, Michele Rennie; his grandchildren, Angela, Adrienne, Stephen, and Andrew; his step-grandchildren, Christina, Kellie, Melissa, and Rachael; two great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Wayne Burrer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kenneth Burrer; his sister, Patricia Burrer; and his step-son, Michael Rennie.
