Ginette Ockajik's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Ginette Ockajik on January 28th 2025 at the age of 98. Ginette was proceeded in death by her husband, Joseph Ockajik in 1997, son Joseph in 1956, son Andre in 2013, son Robert Ockajik 2023, great grandson Michael Torres in 2010, sister Colette Mesnard and brother Pierre Maury.
Ginette was known for her loving care and compassion for family and those who came in contact with her. Her sharp memory provided knowledge, wisdom, laughs, love and the resilience that would become imbedded in all of our hearts. Ginette immigrated from Paris, France after meeting her husband Joseph from the US Army. After marriage they were stationed in multiple countries with their seven children before settling in Lorain, Ohio after Joseph retired with 20 years of military service. She worked at Hills Department Store and retired after 16 years. She loved taking care of her flowers, plants, enjoyed needlepoint and word search puzzles. Her favorite hobby was taking trips to the casino with her family. She loved animals and seemingly strays always showed up at the right time to be gifted a warm and wonderful home. We will miss her dearly and are grateful by having her in our life and blessed by the lives she touched by all that knew her.
Ginette is survived by her daughters Joseline (Donald) Davidson, of Lorain & Andrea (Victor) Bronish, of Chatham; sons Jacques (Lisa), of Lorain and James (Tracey Vanderwyst) of Spencer; grandmother of Renee Lampe, Bruce Davidson, Brittnay (Brandon) Palermo, Racheal (Michael) Torres and Sarah Ockajik; great grandmother to Emaleigh Gula, Rocco & Gino Palermo, who will forever cherish her memory and continue to live by the values she instilled in us.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 11:00 am until the time of her funeral service at 1:00 pm at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Her inurnment, along with her sons’, Andre & Robert’s inurnments, will all take place at Elmwood Cemetery, immediately following her funeral service in the funeral center.
