Gladys I. Lenhard's Obituary
Gladys I. Lenhard left this world for her eternal Heavenly home on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at the age of 98. She was under Hospice care at Rae-Ann Suburban in Westlake, Ohio at the time of her passing. Born in Chauncey, Ohio on September 10, 1922 to Vincent and Rosa Lenhard, she was the sixth of nine children in the family.
Gladys was a graduate of Clearview High School. In 1941, Gladys began working at Western Automatics, which eventually became Stanadyne, where they manufactured the single handle faucet for Moen. She continued her employment there for the next 44years as a Quality Control Inspector and Union representative until her retirement at age 65.
She was an avid baseball fan and attended many Cleveland Indians games in her younger days. Watching baseball or football on TV was something she enjoyed. She took great pride and pleasure in her knitting, crocheting, and needle point. Over the years she created many one-of-a-kind blankets which she gave to family members and friends. For more than 30yrs she was in constant attendance at the Sheffield Township council meetings, where she monitored issues and prodded the trustees for updates and resolutions, which impacted her community. She assisted at her local voting precincts during elections and was a volunteer at the Ireland Cancer Center in Elyria for many years.
Gladys is survived by six nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Joseph, Vincent, William, Charles, Robert, and sisters, Mary Lenhard, Margaret Henderson and Ruth Matyi.
