Grace Kallas' Obituary
Grace Kallas (nee Blatsos), age 97, of Vermilion, died on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Kingston of Vermilion.
She was born on June 12, 1913 in Kankakee, Illinois to the late Thomas and Suzanne Blatsos. She eventually moved to the Lorain/Elyria area and lived there until she was married and then moved to Vermilion.
Grace and her late husband, George, owned and operated the former The White Inn Restaurant on Liberty Avenue in Vermilion for many years. After they sold their business, she began working at the Ford Plant in Lorain as a cook in the cafeteria.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Lorain and the Philoptochos Group of the church.
She enjoyed doing needle point, reading and local traveling.
Grace is survived by her niece and nephew-in-law, Vivian and Louis Chelekis, of Huntington Beach, CA and 2 great-nephews, Christopher and Thomas Chelekis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1974; her brothers, Leo Blatsos, Bill Blatsos and George Blatsos and her sister, Ann Kominos.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 10th from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Blvd., Lorain, where a Trisayion service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Rev. Fr. Michael Gulgas, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
