Guy Michael Mayhew's Obituary
Guy Michael “Hollywood” Mayhew, age 65, of Amherst passed away Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born on June 9, 1951 in Bedford, Virginia to Guy Otis and Iris Jeanette (nee Powers) Mayhew and graduated from Elyria High School in 1970. Upon his graduation from High School he went on to study at the Lincoln Institute of Technology where he studied Industrial Management. He then went on to work for 30 years as Foreman at US Steel, retiring in 2000.
Michael enjoyed outdoor activities, white water rafting, and skiing being among his favorites. He also enjoyed music, sports, baseball, traveling, and rodeo bull riding. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be most remembered for his “favorite sayings”, Happy Holidays, God Bless America, and Right On! He was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He leaves behind to cherish his love and memory his wife; Agnes (nee Bartlebaugh); mother, Iris Hogan; step-father, Jack Waters; sisters, Linda (nee Mayhew) Foreman, Judy (nee Mayhew) Ehrke, Dana Hogan Litzendorf; brother, Richard E. Hogan; nieces, Laura Foreman Barbee, Kendra Foreman Weagley, Brittany Russo, and Callie Litzendorf; nephews, Adam Ehrke, Nicholas Ehrke, Christopher Whidden, and Richard E. Hogan II; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and his extended family in Bedford, Virginia, Doris Tolley and “Little Bro”, Stevie Tolley.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Guy Otis Mayhew; and his beloved step-father, Bobby G. Hogan.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst where a Celebration of Life Service will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Bob Gardner, of Church of the Open Door will officiate.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made in memory of Guy to Rescue Village or the American Cancer Society.
