Harold Rumpler's Obituary
Harold J. Rumpler, age 88, a lifelong resident of Lorain, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2010 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain.
Harold was born on November 12, 1921 in Lorain to the late, Lester and Agnes Mary (nee Weber) Rumpler. He graduated with the class of 1940 B from Lorain High School.
Harold served stateside with the USCG-Merchant Marines during W.W. II, as an Able Seaman and was honorably discharged on August 15, 1945.
Mr. Rumpler was employed as a power dispatcher in the electronics department at US Steel, retiring in 1983 after 37 ½ years of service. He was also employed by the Lorain County Detention Home in maintenance for 12 years while still working at US Steel.
He was a member of Nativity BVM Catholic Church, AARP # 399 Lighthouse and the American Merchant Marines Veterans Association Buckeye Mariners Chapter. He donated much of his time cooking and serving food for the food program at St. Joseph Church, Lorain.
Harold enjoyed gardening, golfing in the CIO League and running. He entered many 10 K marathons.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Victoria (nee Miechur); son, Keith (Sue) Rumpler, of Amherst Twp.; daughter, Kimberly Ann Steffens (Brian Hunter), of Lakewood, CO; grandchildren, Ken (Vicki) Rumpler and Laura Chadwick (Ron Ames); brothers, Donald (Celine) Rumpler, of Lorain and Richard (Donna) Rumpler, of Lorain; sisters, Laverne (Larry) Seeley, of Elyria and Marlene Lowry, of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Agnes Mary (nee Weber) Rumpler.
The Rumpler Family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, 418 W. 15th. Street, Lorain. The Rev. Robert Glepko, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary cemetery.
