Helen Goodell's Obituary
Helen K. Goodell, age 89, of Amherst passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at New Life Hospice Center of Joseph.
She was born on June 29, 1926 in Lorain, Ohio to Frank and Kunegunde (nee Dredziak) Miechur and attended Lorain High School.
Helen worked as floral designer at Zelek’s Florist in Lorain before starting her family and becoming a full time homemaker.
She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst where she served as a Sacristan. She had tremendous faith and she loved praying the rosary.
Helen was an amazing gardener, and enjoyed reading and all craft projects. She also enjoyed cooking, especially with her sisters, making stuffed cabbage, pierogies, and baking up tasty desserts. She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be deeply missed by her family.
She is survived by her children, James (Sue) Goodell, of Vermilion, Mark (Linda) Goodell, of Sheffield Lake, David (Teresa) Goodell, of Beaverton, Oregon, Michael Goodell, of Wilmington, NC and Mary D. Crawford, of Lorain; grandchildren, Rebecca Lengyel, Jeanine Goodell, Matthew Goodell, Melissa Goodell, Shane Kincer, Brian Reinhart, Lara Reinhart, Megan Fanta, Raymond Liebenguth, and Matthew Liebenguth; 7 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Victoria Rumpler, of Lorain.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John Wesley Goodell; her parents, Frank and Kunegunde; daughter-in-law, Ellen Goodell; and siblings, Mary, Joe, Ann, Rose and Angie.
The Goodell family will receive friends on Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.
