Helen Kozopas' Obituary
Helen Kozopas, age 85, of Lorain, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home.
Born October 13, 1926 in Lorain to the late Steve (Stefan) and Susie (Zuzana) Bodnar Gargus, she lived in Lorain her entire life. Helen graduated from Lorain High School in 1945.
For many years, she worked as a cook at Gargus Hall. She also was a fish fry waitress on Fridays at Hanko's "Gin Mill" Restaurant. In the early 1950's she worked at Thew Shovel in Lorain.
Helen was an active member of the former Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lorain, where she taught Sunday School and served as the financial secretary of the church for many years.
She was an active member of the Clearview High School Band Boosters for the years her children were attending the school. Helen enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading and spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her delicious cooking that included Chicken Paprikas, Apple Strudel and Hungarian Kolache (nut roll).
Helen leaves behind her daughters, Joyce, of Lorain, and Carolyn (Jerry) Griehm, of Wilmington, OH; and 2 grandchildren, Michael Griehm and Carrie (Chris) Beaty; her brother, Steve Gargus, Jr., of Lorain and her sister, Elizabeth (Steve) Szabo, of Lorain.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Mike; her brother, John Gargus, and her sister, Lillian Engle.
The Kozopas family invites friends to join them at a memorial and luncheon gathering on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Christ Lutheran Church, 4501 Clinton Ave., Lorain. Private inurnment will be held for the family at a later date in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
The Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst handled the arrangements.
Donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Christ Lutheran Church Food Pantry.
