Helen Stronsky's Obituary
Helen Stronsky (nee Godlewski ), 94, of Lorain, died Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. Mary of the Woods following a short illness.
Born December 5, 1919 in Lorain to the late Alex and Sophia (nee Lipska) Godleski, she has lived in Lorain her entire life. She attended Nativity Elementary School and graduated from Lorain High School. She furthered her education at Lorain Business College earning an Associate of Business Degree.
Helen began her professional career at the Elyria Court House working in the Probate Office. Later she was the executive secretary for the CEO at Nelson Stud Welding (later TRW) in Lorain for many years.
She was a devoted and active member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain, where she aided the church for many years with counting their weekly collections. She was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of the church and had served as a prior secretary of the group.
Helen was a member of Lakeland Woman’s Club, the Zonta Club, and a founding member of the Cosmopolitan Dance Club. She was a member of the auxiliary and also had volunteered for over 20 years at both the former St. Joseph Hospital and Community Health Partners as well as at Mercy Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed golfing, pastry baking, knitting and crocheting, reading and doing crossword puzzles daily.
Surviving is her son, Dr. David (Joanne) Stronsky of Avon; a daughter, Dr. Karen (Dr. Thomas) Rowley of Berkley, CA; grandchildren, Leon (Tracy) Stronsky, Tiffany (Scott Brown) Stronsky, Sarah (James Barker) Stronsky, Heather Rowley and Erin Rowley; and five great grandchildren, Sofia, Stella, Wyatt, Zalia and Andrew; her brothers Stan (Claudia) Godlewski and Bob (Judy) Godlewski, both of Avon Lake and her sister, Sr. Illuminata, of Garfield Heights.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, in 2009; her brothers, John, Joe and Walt Godlewski and her sister, Janet Siek.
The Stronsky family invites friends to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 418 West 15th Street, Lorain. Fr. Robert Glepko, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in her memory to Nativity BVM Church, 418 West 15th Street, Lorain, OH 44052 or to Crossroads Hospice, 9775 Rockside Rd. #270, Valley View, OH 44125.
