Helen T. Szalay's Obituary
Helen T. Szalay, age 97, of Lorain passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.
She was born on January 20, 1917 to John and Tacyanna (nee Wozniak) Skolnicki and graduated from Lorain High School.
Helen was a homemaker, a wonderful cook and baker, a talented seamstress and an artist, who loved to draw and paint. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching basketball and baseball games on television.
She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Lazevich, of Lorain and Jane (Bing) Carlson, of Port Huron, Michigan; son, Richard (Bre) Szalay, of Amherst; grandchildren, Jill, Brian, Kristen, Traci, Mandi and Mindi; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trenton, Alexis, Brandon, Alyssa, Jenna, Laney, Casey, Brady and Ellie; sisters, Rose Dellisanti, of Amherst and Virginia Armelie, of Lorain.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Casey Szalay; and brothers, Joseph, Walter, Edward, Bruno and John.
The Szalay family will receive friends on Monday, March 3, 2014 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be said on Tuesday, March 4th. at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Rev. Father Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
