Henry T. Smarsh's Obituary
Henry T. Smarsh, age 75, of Amherst passed away peacefully Thursday, April 2, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family while under the care of New Life Hospice.
He was born on April 4, 1939 in Lorain, Ohio to Joseph and Joyce (nee Brada) Smarsh Sr. and was a 1957 graduate of Amherst High School.
Henry began his work career as a newspaper carrier with a route that included 118 customers; he also set pins at the Amherst Bowling Alley for 3 years. In 1956 he began working at Krogers Grocery Store for 10 years, eight of those years he served as produce manager. He then went on to work at B.F. Goodrich for 28 1/2 years, 15 1/2 of those years he spent as a foreman, retiring in 1994. Henry also worked for many years for his dear friend, Mrs. Elinor Linden as an all around handy-man.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, going to the casino and traveling. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and being together with them.
Henry is survived his wife of 54 1/2 years, Judith A.; daughters, Michelle (Tony) Schill, Yvonne (Gene) Voros, Eileen (Tony) Looney, Laureen (Paul) Hughett, Patrice (Chris) Niehart, and Colleen (Brent) Pete; sons, Kevin (Kathy Martin) Smarsh, and Timothy (Christine) Smarsh; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Henry's Twin) and Ronald Smarsh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Joyce Smarsh Sr.; brothers, Joseph Jr. and Jonathon Smarsh; sister, Joycelyn (Sis) Smarsh; granddaughter, Jessica Ivan; and great-grandson, Jacob Ivan.
The Smarsh family will receive friends on Monday, April 6, 2015 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral &Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst where closing prayers will be held on Tuesday, April 7th. at 11:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Rev. Fr. Michael Denk, will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.
The family suggest contributions be made in memory of Henry to St. Joseph Church or New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Rd., Lorain, OH 44053.
