Herman G. Walbom's Obituary
Herman G. Walbom, age 86, a lifelong resident of Lorain passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Cleveland Clinic, Avon after a lengthy illness.
He was born on July 19, 1931 in Lorain, Ohio to Herman and Dulcie (nee Thomas) Walbom. He was 1948 graduate of Lorain High School and attended The Ohio State University for 2 years.
Herman enlisted with the United States Army on February 29, 1952 and was honorably discharged on November 30, 1953. He served during the Korean War at the rank of Sergeant.
He worked for a brief time at US Steel and then went on to work as an Auditor for Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1989.
Herman was a member of the I.A.V. and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing softball and watching sports, going on dates with his wife out dancing and to the movies. He absolutely loved his family and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joanne (nee Fantin) Walbom; son, Herman Walbom, of Lorain; daughters, Lisa Walbom Crouch, of Lorain, and Leslie Walbom Gaul, of Montana; grandchildren, Steve, Michael, Brian, and Marisa Crouch, Gail Harmon, and Rachel Whitmore; great-grandchildren, Aurea, Aryan, and Michael Crouch, and Vincent Reyes; brothers, Ronald (Roberta) Walbom, and William Walbom; and his sister, Karen (Dan) Minnich.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Dulcie Walbom; brother, Robert Walbom; and infant sister, Marlene Walbom.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, OH. A prayers service will be held at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral center immediately following the visitation. Private family interment will take place.
