Hong "Rose" Wasacz's Obituary
Hong “Rose” Wasacz, age 78, of Lorain passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s .
She was born on August 24, 1937 in Luong Hoa Lae, Vietnam. Rose met her husband, Peter while she was working at a PX in Saigon and he was serving with the United States Army. A month after Peter and Rose met they began the five month paper work required for their marriage which took place on November 23, 1970 in Saigon’s city hall. They made the decision to marry quickly but they felt that had plenty of time to evaluate their decision while the papers were being processed. Rose was proud when she became a United States citizen.
Rose loved being a homemaker and taking care of her husband and son. She also enjoyed watching television. Rose was a member and greeter at the Church of the North Coast for over 12 years. She has resided at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin since 2013 and had special friendships with all that took care of her. She would make them all laugh even when she was speaking Vietnamese and that didn’t understand a word she said.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Peter and was preceded in death by her son, Jim Anthony Wasacz, in January 2016.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst where funeral services will be held on Friday, June 17th. at 11:00 a.m. Rev.
