Ida Urso's Obituary
On April 13, 2023, in the beautiful season of Renewal and Resurrection, Ida Urso, daughter of the late Emilio and Gilda (Caferro) Urso passed away surrounded by the love of her family, at the age of 76. Ida was born October 4, 1946 in the Village of Pianetti in the Province of Cosenza, Italy. In 1954, her mother, with Ida and her 2 sisters, immigrated to America on the USS Christopher Columbus through Ellis Island, NY, to lifelong home and community in Lorain, Oh. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lorain, OH. She was a graduate of Lorain HS, class of 1964 and Kent State University, class of 1968 and received her Ph.D. from UCLA in Comparative Education focusing on transforming planetary consciousness. She was incredibly humble and despite her unassuming nature, her work was monumental and known worldwide. She was the Director of World Goodwill in New York which led to her life’s work with the United Nations where she became a representative to the Department of Public Information. She then began her own Aquarian Age Community, an educational organization focused on world peace. Her important work will live on through the Aquarian Age Community, where she led monthly webinars, educational offerings, meditation groups and published newsletters which support the spiritual work of the United Nations. Her true life’s purpose was “to bring a little bit of heaven to earth.” Dr. Urso was also a spiritual therapist, and was fortunate to help counsel and guide countless individuals throughout her life. Ida had such a passion for her spiritual work and lived her life to the highest truth that she knew, dedicated and diligent until the very end. Most of all, though, she will be remembered for her infectious kind hearted and nose crinkling smile that you could see in her bright blue eyes, her sweet loving soul and her desire to always do her best in her work and with her family. This was seen with her moving home for 10 years to take care of her aging mother. Ida was preceded in death by her father Emilio Urso in 1949, her step-father Enrico Urso in 1993, her brother-in-law Glen Mikolanda in 2015, her mother Gilda Urso in 2020, and brother-in-law Roger Burleson also in 2020. She will be greatly missed by her surviving sisters, Maria Urso Mikolanda and Yolanda (Lannie) Urso Burleson; 5 nieces and nephews, Jim Mikolanda, Tera (Todd) Studebaker, Amy (Michael) Sullivan, Angela (Jason) Ott, and Andrew (Noelle) Burleson; and 13 great nieces and nephews, multiple cousins and friends. Her presence will live in all of us.
Ida’s family will receive friends on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 11:00 am until the time of her funeral Mass 11:30 am at St. Peter’s Church, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, OH 44052. Rev. Fr.
