Iris "Jean" Hogan's Obituary
Iris Jeanette “Jean” Hogan-Waters (nee Powers), always young at heart, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at her home, with her compassionate daughters by her side.
Jean was born in Bedford, Virginia, where she was a member of Bedford Christian Church. She has been a resident of Elyria since 1965.
She took great pride in her career as a police dispatcher working for several police departments in the area - Grafton, Avon and Olmsted Falls; retiring from Olmsted Falls in 2012. She was well respected by everyone she worked with and earned recognition for her superior service.
Jean had many hobbies. She enjoyed reading, gambling, playing cards, “especially poker”, and BINGO. Traveling to Vegas was something she looked forward to yearly. Her love of Cleveland sports never wavered, especially for the Cleveland Indians and the Browns. More than anything, her family always came first and was her highest priority. She was extremely family orientated and shared her LOVING HEART with each of them.
She is survived by her 3 adoring daughters; Linda Foreman, Judy (Tim) Ehrke, and Dana (John Gonos) Litzendorf, her 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, her sister, Doris Tolley , and extended family of Bedford, VA, and brother-in-law, Gary Waters.
Jean was preceded in death by her husbands, Bobby Hogan of Virginia and Jack Waters of Ohio; her 2 sons; Michael (Hollywood) Mayhew and Rick Hogan.
Private family services will be held at a later date. The Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Due to Jean’s avid love for animals of all kinds, especially the family pets, Casey and Calie, the family suggests that contributions, in her memory, be made to the Friendship Animal Protective League of Lorain County, 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035. Contributions, in her memory, may also be made to Covenant House, www.covenanthouse.org., where she was a faithful donor.
Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dovinreberjones.com.
