Irvin R. Butler, age 87, of Amherst, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 24, 2025. Born on Christmas Day in 1937 in Fostoria, Ohio, he was the beloved son of Robert L. and Ernestine (née Brant) Butler.
Irvin was a 1955 graduate of Jackson Liberty High School. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Navy on December 12, 1955. During his service, he was stationed in Japan and was honored with the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on September 20, 1961.
Following his military service, Irvin dedicated 32 years to Ford Motor Company, working as a maintenance clerk and supervisor before retiring in 1997. Beyond his professional career, he was a dedicated mentor and leader, serving as an advisor for Youth Fellowship, a Cub Master, and a soccer coach for his sons.
A man of many passions, Irvin found joy in bowling, participating in two senior leagues at Rebman Bowling Alley. He loved the great outdoors, spending time fishing, hunting, camping, and traveling. Known for his generous spirit, he relished hosting gatherings, whether it was a clambake, a steak fry, or a corn roast—he simply loved bringing people together.
Above all, Irvin cherished his family. He is survived by his twin sons, Keith (Dana) Butler and Kurt (Kerry) Butler; grandchildren, Kurt Jr., Kameron, Taylor, Kaitlyn, and Connor Butler; step-grandchildren, Brandon (Lauren) Herwig, Alexis Herwig, and Dylan Herwig; and his sister, Jeanette Miller.
