Jacob Frederick Thornhill's Obituary
Jacob Frederick Thornhill passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 29, 2026. He was 61 years old.
Born on February 13, 1965, in Avon Lake, Ohio, Jacob was the beloved son of William and Gail (née Curry) Thornhill. He graduated from Avon Lake High School in 1983 before pursuing his lifelong passion for music at the prestigious Berklee College of Music.
Music was not simply something Jacob enjoyed—it was the heartbeat of his life. An exceptionally talented bass player, he performed with numerous bands throughout the years, sharing his gift everywhere he had the opportunity, from local bars and community events to larger venues. Blessed with what musicians call relative pitch, Jacob possessed the remarkable ability to hear a song and immediately play it, a talent that amazed fellow musicians and audiences alike. He truly lived his dream through music.
One of his favorite performances was at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, where his band played near the giraffe exhibit. It brought him great joy to watch the curious giraffes lower their long necks toward the music, as if they, too, were enjoying the performance. It was one of the many special moments that reflected Jacob's deep connection with both music and nature. His band was also featured on Fox 8 News, a memorable milestone in his musical journey.
In addition to his musical career, Jacob worked as a forklift operator for Green Circle Growers for the past four years. He approached every aspect of life with gratitude and optimism, always choosing to focus on the positive. His genuine kindness, warm heart, and quick wit made him someone people naturally gravitated toward. He had a unique gift for creating nicknames for everyone and everything, bringing laughter and smiles wherever he went.
Jacob found peace in the simple beauty of nature. Whether watching wildlife or quietly enjoying the outdoors, he appreciated the world around him. He also had a well-known love for peanut butter and ice cream, two simple pleasures that always made him smile.
Above all else, Jacob's greatest love was his family. He absolutely adored his wife and sons, who were the center of his world. The love he shared with them was unwavering, and the memories they created together will forever remain in their hearts.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Teresa (née Novotny) Thornhill; his cherished sons, Jacob and Trevor Thornhill; his parents, William and Gail Thornhill; and his sisters, Ellen (Matt) Huffmyer and Laura (Tim) McDermott.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A closing prayer will be held at 7:00 p.m. to conclude the visitation.
Jacob's music may have fallen silent, but the joy he brought to others, the laughter he inspired, and the love he shared with his family and friends will continue to resonate for years to come.
