James G. Asimou's Obituary
James G. Asimou, age 89, of Amherst passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021. He was born on February 6, 1932, in Thisvi, Greece to George and Marigo (nee Tasiyiannis) Asimou. James and his wife, Maria and daughter Maria emigrated from Greece to the United States in 1963.
He was a long-time member of the UAW having worked for General Motors in Elyria until his retirement. As a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, he sang in their choir, served on their Parish Council and worked tirelessly at the church’s festivals.
James enjoyed his neighbors, working in the yard and meeting his friends at McDonald’s for coffee and fellowship. He loved his entire family and took great joy in spending time with all of them.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Maria (nee Kountouriotou); daughter, Maria (Bill) Jaecklein, of Massachusetts; grandchildren, James Jaecklein, and Eleni (fiancé, Richard Rogers); sisters, Mary Paterakis, and Cathy Theodore; brothers, Tom (Helen) Asimou, and John (Helen) Asimou; and many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents George and Marigo Asimou; sisters-in-law, Dina Karkanis, Toula Kountouriotou, Koula Kountouriotou; and brothers-in-law, Gus Paterakis, Bill Theodore, George Kountouriotis and John Kountouriotis.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 10:00 – 11:00 am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Blvd., Lorain, Ohio. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation and will be officiated by Fr. Thomas Drenen. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made in memory of James to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
