James R. Barker Sr.'s Obituary
James R. Barker, Sr., age 77, of Lorain, passed away after battling cancer for the past 7 months on Saturday, December 23, 2023.
He was born on July 24, 1946 in Harrisville, W. VA and moved to Lorain in 1968. He began his career working for Ford Motor Co. at the Avon plant in 1969, where he worked for many years before finally retiring from there in 2002. James loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and bowling.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 ½ years, Kathleen G. (nee Traster) Barker; children, James, Jr. (Lynne) Barker, of Wellington, Steve (Renee) Barker, of Wellington and Tammy (Wayne) Spears, of Lorain; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and sisters, Joyce Payne, Carolyn Payne and Sherry (George) Dearth, all of W. VA.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Iva Maxine Barker; step-dad, Richard Ambrose; dad, Charles Barker; brothers, Charles and David; and a sister, Charlotte Jones.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 30th, 2023 from 10:00 am until the time of his funeral service at 12:00 pm at Tower Baptist Church, 1313 Tower Blvd., Lorain, OH 44053. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. Arrangements are under the care of Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst.
