James Gailey's Obituary
James R. Gailey, 67, of Amherst, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2024, at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, following complications from open heart surgery. Born on April 6, 1957, to Robert and Betty (nee Rowland) Gailey.
A proud graduate of Marion L. Steele High School's Lorain County JVS, class of 1975, James studied training in Auto Body Collision. He dedicated 27 years of his career to Ford Motor Company, as a welder, where he was known for his expertise and commitment. Beyond his professional life, James was a beekeeper extraordinaire and had a remarkable talent for creating Native American elements, especially intricate beadwork.
James had a passion for life that extended to his hobbies and interactions with others. He cherished working on his 48-year-old jeep, a testament to his love for restoration and craftsmanship. Cooking was another of his joys, often sharing his culinary creations with friends and family. Known for his warm and engaging personality, James never missed an opportunity to connect with others in meaningful conversations. He was also an avid walker, enjoying the peace and clarity it brought him.
James is survived by his longtime partner, Kathy Hall; his daughter, Taunya Watkins of Winston Salem, North Carolina; and his grandchildren, Jenna Richardson, Brianna McCartney, and Ashley McCartney. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Mileina, Dre'Jen, Myles, Messiah, and Makai, as well as numerous cousins who will remember him fondly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Betty Gailey; his brother, Robert Gailey; and his granddaughter, Angel McCartney.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate James’s life on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, located at 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Private family interment will take place.
James R. Gailey will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness, craftsmanship, and a zest for life will continue to inspire and warm the hearts of those he touched.
