James Grasso's Obituary
James J. Grasso Sr., age 78, a lifelong resident of Lorain passed away on Wednesday, May, 10, 2017.
He was born on July 9, 1938 in Lorain, Ohio to Peter and Marge (nee Knispel) Grasso. James enlisted with the United States Navy on April 27, 1956 and was honorably discharged on July 8, 1959. While serving with the Navy he worked as an airplane mechanic.
James and his wife, Mary were the owner’s of Mary’s Sweet Shop for 35 Years, they retired together in 2010.
He was a member of the Church of St. Peter, Lorain and a longtime member of the Knights of St. John Comm. 281. He loved spending time with his family playing games and traveling with his wife.
James is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary (nee Gongaware); children, James (Susan) Grasso, Susanna (William) Wagner, Edward (Carla) Grasso, and Thomas (Shari) Grasso; 11 loving grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brothers, Robert Peter (Nancy) Grasso, and Anthony (Louise) Grasso; and his sister, Meri (Russell) Crandall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Marge Grasso.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 4:00 – 8:00 – p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Mass of Christian Burialwill be on Tuesday, May16th at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter,(PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH) 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Rev. Father Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Private family interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made in memory of James to the Shriners Hospitals For Children or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
