James R. Kodger's Obituary
James R. Kodger, 85, of Amherst, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 21, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Harold and Helen (nee Kolibab) Kodger, Jim graduated from St. Edward High School in 1959 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He went on to retire as a manager from Nordson Corporation.
A longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, Jim built the home where he and his family would share 47 wonderful years together. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and cheering on Cleveland sports teams, and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. In his younger years, Jim found great joy on the golf course, out on the water fishing and boating, and traveling to new places. In later years, he embraced the simple pleasure of the ride, becoming an enthusiastic bicyclist with the Silver Wheels group. Above all, Jim treasured his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who faithfully supported his children and grandchildren throughout their lives.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sylvia (nee Resar) Kodger; loving children, Robert (Mary) Kodger and Christine Bennis (Bobby Hanna); cherished grandchildren, Brett Kodger, Sydnee (Michael) Nicastro, Erin Kodger, and Kate Kodger; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Andrew Bennis.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the time of his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst, OH 44001.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Northeast Ohio Foundation for Patriotism online at https://neopat.org/ or mailed to NEO PAT at PO Box 16758 Rocky River, OH 44116.
