James W. Nimon's Obituary
James W. “Jim” Nimon, age 80, of Lorain, passed away at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center after a long battle with cancer on Friday, February 24, 2023.
Jim was born on September 9, 1942 in Lorain, where he lived his entire life and graduated from Lorain High School. After high school, he served his country in Germany while being enlisted in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge from the military, he began his career as a skilled tradesman under the guidance and direction of his father at the Nimon Company, where he worked for many years. After working for his father, Jim eventually established his own company, Nimon Insulators, where he proudly dedicated his craftsmanship. He then worked for PC Campana until his retirement.
James is a member of St. Mary’s Church in Lorain, where he enjoyed volunteering his time and efforts to the church’s garden. Not only did he enjoy his time spent there, but valued the friendships he made there. It was in Jim’s easy nature to take care of anyone who needed it. He loved helping people, especially if it happened to be “odd jobs” his family or friends needed done around the house or when he could show-case his skill as being a “Jack of all trades.” James always found ways to stay busy and would usually entail working on something with his hands. When he wasn’t building or fixing something, he liked to fish as well as work on jigsaw puzzles.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Francine K. (nee Kerpics); sons, Michael (Liza), of Lorain, Frank (Denise), of North Ridgeville, Daniel (Shirley), of Lorain and David, of Lorain; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; sister, Beverly (Wayne) Schramm, of Kipton; and brother, Kenneth (Barbara), of LaGrange.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Wesley & Beatrice (nee Bilby) Nimon.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday February 28th, from 4 – 7 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. His funeral Mass will be on Wednesday March 1st, at 10 am, at St. Mary Church, 309 West 7th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052. Rev. Fr. Daniel O. Divis, Pastor, will officiate. People wishing to attend Mass are to meet at the church before 10am. To send an online condolence, please go to www.dovinreberjones.com.
