James E. Phillips' Obituary
James E. Phillips, age 78, of Amherst, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018 at University Hospitals Amherst Center, in Amherst.
He was born on May 3, 1939 in Point Miriam, PA. He was employed by Ford Motor Company from 1956 until he retired in 1986.
James was happy to belong to many clubs including; the Ohio Motor Pool, the Vintage Bike Club, which was based out of Portland, IN, the Lorain County Vintage Motor Scooter Club, and the Cushman Club of America. He was always fascinated with military vehicles and one of his greatest hobbies was to collect vintage vehicles from the World War II era. James was not only interested in cars though. Remote controlled helicopters, scooters, and motor bikes were all things he enjoyed being involved with as well. When he had a bit of free time, James could be found collecting coins, hunting and shooting, cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, and even taking some time to read.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Norma I. Phillips (nee Torres), children; James E. Phillips, Jr., of North Carolina, William Phillips, of Oklahoma, Joseph R. Phillips, of Ohio, Christina M. Phillips, of Texas, Randy Phillips, of South Carolina, Dolly Elliott, of Ohio, and Cindie Dillard, of Kentucky, his 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and a sister, Donna Mae Hobart, of Vermilion.
James was preceded in death by his parents; Raymond A. and Evelyn (nee Martin) Phillips, and his brother, Calvin Phillips.
The Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 11:30 am, at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, for graveside services. The Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, is assisting the family with arrangements.
