James J. Stock's Obituary
James J. Stock, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, under the compassionate care of Suncrest Hospice, Amivie, and Seniors Helping Seniors. Born on June 2, 1938, in Dillonvale, Ohio, to George and Helen Stock, Jim grew up with strong values, deep faith, and an unwavering dedication to family and service.
A 1957 graduate of Dillonvale High School, Jim was proud of his time on the football team and was honored with the Most Sportsmanlike Trophy during a memorable game against Barnesville. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1957, serving proudly as a Specialist 1st Class in the Military Police.
In 1961, Jim began a 32-year career with Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1993. Hardworking, loyal, and respected by colleagues, he exemplified commitment in every aspect of his life.
Jim’s Catholic faith was the foundation of his daily life. He held a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother, praying to her every day. He was a member of Nativity BVM, in South Amherst but frequently attended Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus, AMVETS, and the VFW.
Jim enjoyed visiting casinos, watching all sports, and—above all—cheering on his grandchildren as they played. Time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him tremendous joy. Even after suffering a stroke in 2012, Jim faced each day with remarkable strength and resilience, embodying the spirit of a true warrior.
He is survived by his devoted wife and primary caretaker of 60 years, Betty A. (nee Nameth) Stock; daughters, Lori (Joe) Sosinski of Amherst and Denise (Marty) Carreon of Wakeman; grandchildren, Jacob (Morgan) Sosinski, Jordan (Angela) Sosinski, Joey Sosinski, Marisa (fiancé, Jonathon, and his daughter, Leah McLeod) Carreon, Mariana (David) Stewart, and Tony Carreon; great-grandchildren, Rosalina Stewart, Henry, Kate, Boone, and Penny Sosinski; his brother, Dennis (Jean) Stock; and many family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Jay Stock, Helen Wells, Robert Stock, and Donald Stock.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 25th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH 44089. Rev. Father Paul Schreiner, Pastor, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Suncrest Hospice in Jim’s memory.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his hospice nurse, Kellie Kasubienski, and home health aide, Kim Camacho, as well as to the many special friends and family members who enriched Jim’s life with love and companionship.
