James H. Wargo's Obituary
James Wargo, age 69, a lifelong resident of Amherst went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the VA Medical Center at Wade Park from complications caused from Agent Orange.
He was born on December 20, 1946 in Amherst, Ohio to Melbourne and Adah Wargo and was a 1964 graduate of Admiral King High School. Upon his graduation from high school he enlisted with the United States Navy as a Sea Bee and served his country in the Vietnam War. While enlisted he was a member of the World Class Navy Sea Bee Band. After his honorable discharge he enrolled in Lorain County Community College furthering his education, studying art.
James served a 4 year apprenticeship with the Sheet Metal Workers Local 107 and continued his career as a sheet metal worker until he became disabled and was no longer able to work.
He was a member of the Firelands Baptist Church where he served as treasurer, the American Legion Post 118 and the AMVETS Vermilion Post 22.
James enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and playing Santa Claus. His most treasured time was the time he spent with his family, especially his 3 beautiful granddaughters and his dog, Killian.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judy (nee Shinsky); sons, Todd Wargo and Michael (Darrylin) Wargo; daughter, Dawn Wargo; granddaughters, Stephanie, Taylor, and Samantha; and his brother, Melbourne “Skip” (Barbara) Wargo Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Melbourne and Adah Wargo.
The Wargo family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held in the funeral center on Wednesday, March 2nd. at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Ed Young, of Firelands Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp. Military honors will be conducted by the Amherst Veterans Honor Guard.
