Janet Chulig, a beloved educator, loving sister, and cherished friend, passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. She was born on October 3, 1947, in Lorain, Ohio, to her proud parents, Harry and Hilda (née Blazina) Chulig.
Janet's journey of lifelong learning began at her local high school, where she laid the foundation for a future dedicated to knowledge and service. She continued her education at Lorain County Community College, becoming one of the pioneering graduates of the institution. Janet's passion for education and her commitment to personal growth led her to earn a master's degree from Kent State University in Education.
Throughout her career, Janet devoted herself to teaching in the Lorain City Schools, sharing her wisdom and kindness with generations of young minds. She made a lasting impact on countless students before retiring in 2001.
Janet's interests were as diverse as her knowledge. She had a wanderlust that took her on adventures to far-off places and an appreciation for fine dining that delighted her palate. Her green thumb found joy in gardening, her inquisitive spirit was evident in her voracious reading habits, and she loved nothing more than spending quality time with her sisters. Her sister’s, two faithful canine companions, Belle and Rusty, always brought her joy, as were her nieces' guinea pigs, Buttercup and Snickers.
Private family funeral services were held at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center.
Janet's infectious sense of humor brightened the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was known for her willingness to lend a helping hand to her friends, a testament to her selflessness and caring nature.
Janet Chulig is survived by her sisters, Carole Crayton, and Cheryl (Carlton) McCarty, who will forever hold her in their hearts. Her nieces, Hilary Crayton, Catherine McCarty (Ryan) Zaworski, and Carolyn McCarty, and her nephew, Christopher (Emily) McCarty, will fondly remember their beloved aunt. Janet's great-nephew, Jackson Ryan McCarty, carries forward her legacy.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Hilda Chulig, and her sister, Joanne Chulig; and her brother-in-law, Roger Crayton
Janet Chulig's legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched, leaving behind a trail of knowledge, kindness, and love. Her memory will forever be a guiding light to all who were fortunate enough to share in her life's journey. Rest in peace, dear Janet.
