Janet Marie Reed-Latimer's Obituary
Our beloved mother, Janet Marie Reed - Latimer departed this life to be with our Lord on December 11, 2021. She was a fraternal twin, one of 16 children born to her parents Elizabeth and Clarence Reed in East Liverpool, Ohio in 1937.
Her twin brother was her best friend, she recalls laughter, the smiles he brought to her face and how she learned how to swim from his teachings. This skill would eventually serve her well on her high school swim team, life guard and an invitational Olympic tryout.
Thereafter and graduating from high school, Janet met her life-long partner, Charles Latimer from Detroit, Michigan and their marriage lasted 65years. From this union 4 children would be born. An employment transfer for Charles eventually resulted in a move and settling in Lorain, Ohio were they raised their family for many years till this very day.
Janet was an ardent, believer student of the Bible and member of the House of Praise International Church, she volunteered as a cell group member and greeting church members and guest, something she enjoyed dearly. She was an active member of various organizations: the Les Charmettes and the Negro Professional Business Club and political affiliates: the Lorain Women Democratic Party and the NAACP.
Janet loved fashion and she was a stylist dresser. Inspiring her creative interest which eventually led her to a career choice in the retail industry. She was employed by Ted Jacobs and the J C Penney Co. for many years as a sales associate and as an assistant department manager until her retirement.
In her spare time, she enjoyed social gatherings, bowling, traveling and camping with her family. Sports was a highlight for her every year watching the Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers and her favorite golfer, Tiger. Most importantly, she loved her husband, family and attending church when she was able.
She leaves behind her husband, Charles, her children: Robin Bradley (Jeff), Vivian Marcey Alexander, Tikara Robinson (Jackie) and Charles Latimer II; (10) grandchildren: Ryan, Celeste, Gerald, Jason, Dana, Brandon, Lauren, Jarius, Charles III and Malaya and (6) great-grandchildren: Brighton, Kali, Jace, Jaelen, Jaelle and Adalyn and lastly, numerous nieces and nephews (to many to count), Sister-in-laws: Mary Robinson and Bennie Mae Latimer. Preceding her in death: her parents, sisters/brothers: Mable Dorsey, Virginia Douglas, Geraldine Cox, ,Kay Waters, Joe Marva Williams, Jessie Reed, Clarence Reed II and Buster Reed.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 8th, 2022 from 10:00 am until the time of her funeral service at 12:00 pm at The House of Praise International Church, 4321 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44055. Rev. Gilbert Silva, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow her funeral service at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
