Jean Wheeler's Obituary
Jean Wheeler (nee Doran), age 59, of Vermilion, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Mercy Hospital.
Born on September 12, 1955 in Nelsonville, Ohio, Jean grew up in Conneaut. She graduated from St. John High School in Ashtabula, Mercyhurst University in music education, and masters degree from Marygrove College.
For 35 years, Jean taught in the Amherst Exempted Village School System. She taught music at several schools within the district but spent many years at Powers Elementary, retiring in 2012.
An active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion, Jean had taught PSR and also led the King’s Kids Choir.
She enjoyed traveling, going to concerts, photography and to Playhouse Square in Cleveland for the Broadway Series performances. She was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Bruce; her sons, Daniel and Joseph; her daughter, Lauren (Dave) Jackson; grandson, Cody and a granddaughter due in July; her parents, Dr. William and Mary Doran; and her five brothers and two sisters.
She was preceded in death by her brother.
The family invites friends to a memorial mass on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church; 731 Exchange St, Vermilion. The family will also receive friends later that day at a memorial gathering on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Private family burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery in Conneaut, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Jean Doran Wheeler Scholarship Fund, c/o any Key Bank branch.
