Jennie Herstek's Obituary
Jennie Herstek (nee DeFoggie), age 94, of Avon Lake, passed away on Tuesday, September27, 2016 at Fairview Hospital.
She was born on May 27, 1922, in Lorain, where she has lived most of her life until moving to Avon Lake in 2014. She was a 1940 graduate of Lorain High School. After high school she enlisted and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, from 1943 until 1945. She was one of the first groups of women to enter the Marine Corps during World War II. In December of 1945, she married her beloved husband, John.
Jennie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Restored Gospel, where she was also a member of the Ladies Uplift Circle. Jennie worked for many places including; the May Company, in downtown, Cleveland, O’Neils, in Sheffield Village, as well as being a hair dresser, stylist, and cosmetologist. She was an amazing cook, loved to garden, swim, and travel too.
Jenny will be sadly missed by her loving husband of71 years, John, her children; Glen Herstek, of Lorain, Nancy Adams, of Radnor, PA, and Diane Markel, of Lorain, her grandchildren; Bianca Arocho, of Holladay, Utah, Michael Herstek, of Perrysburg, Ohio, Emily Markel, of Avon, Ohio, and Andrew and Sarah Adams, both of Radnor, PA, and her great grandchildren; Ava Harvey and Brandon Colvig.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Michael and Antoinette (nee Martino) DeFoggie.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 29, from 5-8 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, where her funeral service will be held on Friday, at 11:00 am. Rev. Mark Naro, Pastor of Church of Jesus Christ Restored Gospel, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Ladies Uplift Circle, 2655 Broadway Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
