Jennie D Shannon's Obituary
Jennie D. Shannon (nee Dixon), age 84, of Elyria, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at Elyria Memorial Hospital on Sunday, June 4, 2023.
She was born on April 8, 1939 in Mobile, Alabama and moved to this area in 1955. She proudly dedicated her life to caring for her home and family, especially raising her 4 sons. She was also a woman of great faith and was a past member of New Bethel Baptist Church where she sang in their choir. Jennie was an excellent gardener, especially when it came to tending to her various fruit trees and flowers. She always looked forward to getting out to fish, enjoyed playing the guitar, and taking trips with the family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, O.L. Shannon; sons, Sid Shannon, of Elyria, O.L. Shannon, Jr. (Shannon Osborne Shannon), of Elyria, Les (Paula) Shannon, of Lorain and Otis (Lisa) Shannon, of Lorain; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and siblings, William (Ada) Dixon, of Columbus, Nathaniel Dixon, of Elyria and Mentoria Gaddis, of Atlanta, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Len & Julia (nee Smith) Dixon and siblings, Mary Anderson, Cornelius, Leonard, Alfred, Elijah and Sam.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 13th, 2023 from 4-7 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Her funeral service will be on Wednesday, also in the funeral center, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
