Joan M. Parr's Obituary
Joan M. Parr (nee Yacyshyn), age 78, a native of Lorain County, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at the Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain.
She was born on May 19, 1940 in Cleveland, to Walter and Bernice (nee Budziak) Yacyshyn. Joan was a Radiologic Technologist first at Cleveland Metro Hospital, as well as other surrounding hospitals in Cuyahoga County, and then at the former Lorain Community Health Partners for 28 years. The last 15 years of her career was spent performing Mammography. She retired in 2002. She was affectionately called, “Ma Parr”, as she was a mentor and special friend to those she worked with. She was very proud of her Polish heritage, and loved to cook, sharing tips and recipes with her friends.
Joan loved crafting and was extremely good at it too. She was a true artist at heart and took great pride in her many drawings, tole painting and various wood working crafts she created. If there was anything that could be crafted and made into art, she eagerly did it. Her most recent projects were talented and creative painting on rocks, transforming them into animals. She recently received second place for her squirrel rock in the 3D Art Category at the Leading Age Regional Art Show, in Mt. Vernon. When Joan wasn’t working on her craft projects or gardening, you could find her enjoying a good book or watching her movies.
Joan is survived by her children; Michelle (Michael Mutich) Manca, of Lorain, Scott (Elizabeth) Parr, of Mt. Vernon, OH, and Marie (Rob) Taft, of Amherst, her grandchildren; Elysia, Jason, Merisa, Adam, Michael, Taylor, and Scott, Jr., her 11 great grandchildren, and her sisters; Loretta (Richard) Minch, Mary Phillips, and Terri (Larry) Hotz, all of Cuyahoga County.
She was preceded in death by a son, Leslie Ellis Parr and her parents.
The family will receive friends on Saturday 9/29 from 10:00 am until the time of her memorial service at 11:00 am, at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. To send an online condolence, go to www.dovinreberjones.com
