Joan E. Reber's Obituary
Joan E. Reber, age 78, of Elyria passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.
She was born on March 26, 1936 in Lorain, Ohio to Steve and Mary (nee Iles) Kopasz, and graduated from Lorain High School in 1954.
Joan worked as a seafood specialist for Kroger Grocery Stores and at Heinen’s in Rocky River, where she retired from in 2001.
She was a member of UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers), and a former social club member of IAV and former auxiliary member of Amherst Eagles.
Joan was a true people person, known to her friends as Joni or Kopi, who enjoyed dining out with her friends, dancing and laughing. She was an excellent cook and baker and she especially enjoyed cooking her native Hungarian dishes, enjoyed by many. She spoke fluent Hungarian. Joan also enjoyed sports, gaming, playing cards, word puzzles and watching Olympics ice skating on television.
She is survived by her daughters, Valerie Reber, of Elyria, and Melanie Reber, of Winter Haven, Florida; her brother, Steve Kopasz, of Pueblo, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Mary Kopasz; sisters, Margaret Sabo and Betty Bruce.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m.. immediately following the visitation in the funeral center. Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec, Pastor of the Church of St. Peter, Lorain, will officiate. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
