JoAnn Amos DuVall's Obituary
JoAnn Amos DuVall was born in Mansfield, Ohio on February 1st, 1948 to John and Virginia Amos and passed away peacefully on May 25th, 2024. She graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1966 and The Ohio State University in 1970. After obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Education, JoAnn would embark upon a 33-year teaching career. Her first 3 years were spent at Crevling Elementary in Mansfield and her final 30 years at Hawthorne-Boone Elementary in Lorain, where she primarily taught 3rd grade and eventually retired in 2003.
JoAnn met the love of her life, Danny, in 1968 while both were attending The Ohio State University. They eventually married on June 30, 1973 at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church and resided in the Lorain/Elyria area for over 50 years. To this blessed union of 50 years, Danny and JoAnn were blessed with two sons: Jason (Sara) DuVall of Westlake, Ohio and Brandon (special friend - Abbey Bolton) DuVall of Stow, Ohio. One of the greatest joys for JoAnn was the arrival of her two grandchildren: Evelyn and Aaron, both of Westlake. Additional survivors include her sister, Ivy Amos (Mansfield, OH), brothers Ed Amos (Columbus, OH) and Darwin (Wanda) Amos (Long Beach, CA), brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Thelma DuVall (Las Vegas, NV), and sisters- in- law Dr. Joan DuVall-Flynn (Glen Mills, PA), and Sylvia DuVall, of Lorain, OH.
In addition to her teaching career, JoAnn was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church in Elyria, Ohio (Dr. Carl P Small, Pastor). For more than 3 decades she was a member of the gospel choir and loved to sing. In addition to her singing, JoAnn loved to sketch and paint, photography, and traveling. She and her husband, Danny, both took an interest in flowers and landscaping. Anyone that knew JoAnn would tell you that her warm smile, kindness, and caring heart would light up the room. She adored her students and gave them her best. Her own children and friends were especially lucky to have her.
The DuVall family will receive friends on Friday, May 31, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst.
