Joanne C. Gotsis' Obituary
Joanne C. Gotsis (nee Prosek) 76, of Lorain, passed away in the comfort of her own home on Wednesday, December 16, 2015.
Born March 6, 1939 in Cleveland, she moved to Lorain in 1964. She graduated from Hoban Dominican High School in 1957 and went on to receive her nursing degree from St. Alexis School of Nursing in 1960.
Joanne worked as the head nurse in the emergency room at St. Alexis Hospital in Cleveland for 4 years before dedicating herself to raising her children.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Lorain, and attended St. Peter Parish, Lorain. Joanne volunteered for many nonprofit organizations in the Lorain area for many years.
She enjoyed gardening, music and all Ohio sports teams. Joanne especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sport events and activities.
Surviving are her children, Paul (Samantha) of Berlin Heights, George (Lynn) of Amherst, John (Denise) of North Ridgeville, Maria (Kevin) Cullen of Lorain, Peter (Ana) of Amherst and Barbara Gotsis of Lorain; grandchildren, Sammy, Kaylee, Zachary, Niko, Demitri, George, Isabela and George; brothers, Tom (Susan) Prosek and John (Lisa) Prosek both of Columbus; and sisters, Phyllis (Emil) Bayus of Sheffield Lake and Mary Ann (Bob) Campbell of Virginia.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Dr. George P. Gotsis in 1998; and her parents, Elmer and Julia (nee Uskuraitis) Prosek.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 20, 2015 from 2:00 - 6:00 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, where funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 am followed by mass at 11:00 am at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Rev. Craig M. Hovanec, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Twp.
