John C. Alexander's Obituary
John C. Alexander, 81, of Avon Lake, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 17, 2026, under the compassionate care of New Life Hospice, after a short illness and a broken heart following the loss of his beloved wife just one year ago.
Born on September 10, 1944, in Lorain, Ohio, John was a proud graduate of Admiral King High School, Class of 1963. That same year, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Air Force and serving honorably during the Vietnam War until 1967. Upon returning home, he built a life grounded in hard work and dedication, beginning a long and steady career as an electrician with CEI, where he remained until his retirement in 1993.
John was a faithful member of Broadway Assembly Church in Lorain. He had a passion for model trains, was a proud Corvette enthusiast, and enjoyed attending car shows. Yet, it was the time he spent traveling alongside his wife, Nancy, especially their cherished trips out West and the many cruises they enjoyed together that mattered most. Their love was evident in every mile traveled and every memory made.
He is survived by his loving children, Susan (Baltazar) Torres and John (Victoria) Alexander; his cherished grandchildren, Michael, Ashley, Alexis (Domanek), Johnathan, and Matthew (Zoe); his treasured great-grandchildren, Maliha, Braylen, Briella, Kinsley, and Kaylie; and his sister-in-law, Patricia Gotro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Alexander and Jean (née Wood) Alexander; his beloved wife, Nancy E. Alexander, who passed away on April 19, 2024; and his brother-in-law, Hugh “Sonny” Gotro, and nephew, Brian Gotro.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Broadway Assembly Church, 5495 Broadway Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052. Pastor Matt Jones will officiate, and military honors will be conducted following the service. John will be privately laid to rest with his wife, Nancy, at Ridge Hill Memorial Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John’s honor to Mercy New Life Hospice by Compassus or Broadway Assembly Church.
