Dr. John R. Allsop's Obituary
Dr. John R. Allsop, age 90, born in South Amherst, Ohio on July 1, 1935, to the late Sophia (nee Aebersold) and Harold Allsop passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Ames Family Hospice.
He resided in Amherst, Ohio for the past 50 years. He was a 1953 graduate of South Amherst High, and a 1959 graduate of the School of Dentistry of The Ohio State University. He went on to serve 3 years as a Captain in the United States Army, Yukon Command at Fairbanks, Alaska. He returned to Amherst where he practiced Dentistry for 38 years.
A lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in South Amherst, and was a member of the Amherst Rotary Club, since 1967, where he was active in many of their international and community projects. He was an avid gardener, fisherman and enjoyed hunting. He especially enjoyed hunting in the West. Shooting Sporting Clays was also a hobby of his.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah (Robert) Rose, of Apex, NC, Dr. Jennifer Allsop, of Milan, OH, and Olivia Rault, of Lakewood, OH; grandsons, Jeremy, Brian, and Matthew. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Susan Allsop, in 2018; parents, Harold and Sophia Allsop; and his brother, Harold Allsop Jr.
